Tracking walk with Matt Nelson and Jim Sullivan
17 November, 2013, Matt Nelson and Jim Sullivan will lead a tracking walk, meeting on the entry road at the Bodega Dunes Campground, a mile north of Bodega Bay from 9 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. $25.00.
Bring water, a snack, binoculars if you have them. Be prepared for both cool and warm weather, as it changes rapidly on the coast at this time of year. Easy hike. If rain threatens, call Jim at 707 874-9927 between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m. Sunday morning.
We will circle up at 9:00 a.m. for introductions and head right out tracking. As we find tracks and sign we will cover track ID, gaits, feed sign, getting inside the mind of the animal, assessment of the environment, tracking culture. The focus will be on learning to identify the spoor of the local animals, birds, and other critters right down to insects and ants. In this area these are some of the animals often seen: deer, bobcats, coyotes, foxes, rabbits, badgers, mice, voles, skunks, opossums, raccoons, birds, insects, etc.
